2024/2025 Events and Visits

The programme runs from September 2024 to July 2025 with a winter break in January 2025. Meetings are usually held on the second Thursday of the month starting at 7.30pm in the Salem Church Hall, Main Street, Burley in Wharfedale, LS29 7BT. Meetings are free for members. Visitors pay £2. Refreshments are available before the meeting. 14th November 2024 - Euphorbias - A return visit from Don Witton the popular, humorous speaker and National Collection Holder of Euphorbia. An ‘all you need to know’ about this very popular plant group showing the wonderful variety throughout the year in the wide ranging genus of known species.

12th December 2024 - The National Garden Scheme and Scape Lodge Garden - Many people will be familiar with the National Garden Scheme. The talk by David and Elizabeth Smith will look at the scheme from their point of view as participants opening their garden for charity.  Scape Lodge garden is in a beautiful location on a challenging hillside near Huddersfield and has featured on Gardener’s World and in the English Garden magazine.

13th February 2025 - Cliff Bank Nursery – The Re-beginning - We welcome Ben Preston, one of the new owners of Cliff Bank Nursery.  An experienced horticulturalist, Ben was the Head Gardener at York Gate until he saw the opportunity to reopen Joe Maiden’s former nursery and have a business of his own. Ben will show the work which has gone into resurrecting the site to being productive again.
